Last month we produced our first fretless guitar. A Ventura satin with korina body and a fretless resin fingerboard was ordered by Adamo Ambrosiano of the Deriva cover band from Milan.
“Hi Andrea: I finally tested the guitar in the studio and here are some comments…
I found myself really challenged as the precision required to play in tune is very much the key, but while getting used to that the possibilities start to be revealed, widening up the things you play and the way you play in an endless combination.
I adjusted the bridge as I like to have slightly higher strings. The sounds, as the bodyweight gives support to sustain, is full and powerful; rhythmics, after mastering the positions of fingers, are fabulous especially for tough tunes. So I feel it great for metal, especially very hard metal, this guitar could ease a lot the guitarist’s job. On soloing It took time to develop to be “in tune” and to switch the instinct to bend the strings into slide the finger.
In conclusion a great instrument with heavy rock tones, that let me discover a new world that was frightening me at the beginning (I was wondering if I ordered an instrument I couldn’t play) but now it wakes up my enthusiasm as the Ventura you build is easier to play than I was expecting. I suggest anyone to check something like this except for beginners, as the instrument requires a “respectful approach”. After this you can discover a very versatile and interesting new instrument. “
