I’m Jukka Jokikokko from Oulu, Finland.
I have played bass since 1988 and now I play heavy metal for bands called “Burning Point”, “Stargazery” and “Zenith Reunion”. I have admired Manne basses for long time now, and last spring I had the opportunity (thanks to NordSound and Rune Pettersson) to test a Manne Kayenta-5 Satin Special. I immediately loved it and I had to get one for myself! And sometimes you dreams can really come true.
As I write this, my Kayenta has been here for week now and I have had one gig with Burning Point (official “The Ignitor” album release gig). It is truly an awesome instrument. For the gig I set my amplifier eq to flat and that’s it. The bass itself makes so many tonal variations available to the player, that you can do almost everything there…at the instrument level.
The only “extra” what I had (heavy metal you know) was a slight distortion/overdrive by a preamp, but the pedal that I typically use also had a flat eq setting. I use a bass wah pedal and earlier I thought that it’s not good enough for lower notes. But with the Kayenta it works perfectly! Even on the H (or B in USA) string. I don’t know why, maybe the mics pick up the sound of strings more sharply.
A funny anecdote, during the sound check, when we started the bass check, it took only a few seconds and the sound engineer put thumbs up. Well, this story will continue. This week I’m gonna test the Kayenta in the studio and you can imagine that I have really high hopes about it.
